Local Capacity Building Seminar

The local capacity building seminar “Instructional design – Introduction to E-Learning for lecturers” took place in the Bolivian Catholic University from 21st to 24th of October, 2010. In four intensive days of lectures and practical exercises, ten professors from the Bolivian Catholic University as well as three external experts were trained to increase their capacities of in the development of courses in a 100% e-learning modality.

This capacity building was meant to facilitate the execution of Pilot Module 1 of the JELARE Project which consists in the implementation of a joint virtual Postgraduate Programme in “Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energies” in the Bolivian Catholic University, the Galileo University of Guatemala and the University of the South of Santa Catarina, Brazil.

The specific objectives of the capacity building were:

To obtain knowledge and conscience about the e-learning teaching methodology in a higher education context

To obtain knowledge about the different didactical methods applied in virtual education

To develop a model unit for the JELARE postgraduate programme

To learn the application of e-activities and

To learn the use of Web 2.0 tools for education purposes

As a result of the CB, the JELARE experts have developed the first learning unit of their virtual courses for Pilot Module 1. The other UCB lecturers who participated in the CB are now working on the development of two pilot E-Learning courses, “Induction to the UCB for academic and administrative staff” and “Competencies for the lecturer of the university in the 21st century”.
