UNISUL and JELARE Project promote a seminar about Renewable Energies in Brazil
10th August 2011

A group of 20 graduate students in Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, one of the most prestigious U.S. universities, visited UNISUL and participated in a seminar of the project JELARE (The Joint European-Latin American Universities Renewable Energies Project) dedicated to the study of the Brazilian energy matrix and the development of Renewable Energy in Brazil.

The group of scholars came to Brazil in a program coordinated by ISA - "International Studies Abroad," as an activity of a discipline with a focus on renewable energy for engineering students at the University of Pittsburgh - USA.

Professor Baltazar D´Andrade Guerra (UNISUL) presented the Brazilian energy matrix and the importance of the renewable energies in Brazil, pointing that Apart from environmental benefits, renewable energies offer great potential for the local socio-economic development in Latin America. As renewable energies can be produced locally, they provide a wide range of local job opportunities (from high-skilled to low-skilled labour, from high-tech to agriculture), foster local investments and reduce the need for importing fossil fuels.
